Methodism does not date from the time of Christ. It dates from the time of John Wesley. John Wesley was attempting to reform the rigid ways of the Church of England. If you had lived 500 years ago you could not be a member of the Methodist church for the simple reason there was not a Methodist Church on the face of the earth to be found until 1739.
Today there is the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, the Congregational Methodist Church, the Evangelical Methodist Church, the First United Methodist Church, the Free Methodist Church, the Global Methodist Church, the Primitive Methodist Church, the Reformed Methodist Union Episcopal Church, the Southern Methodist Church, the Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, the United Methodist Church, and the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, along with at least seven more appellations. Did you notice that not one of those “titles” can be found on any page of God’s Word?
Notice please the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, (henceforth: UFMCC).
Founded in 1968, this Protestant body is best known for its outreach to homosexuals… (emp. JW). This awareness prompted Troy D. Perry to create a denomination where such people could find genuine acceptance in a context of Christian worship and service. Perry, himself a sodomite, had been discharged from the church he served as pastor and ostracized from his denomination. He called a congregation into being in Los Angeles, and soon churches were organized in other cities. In the summer of 1970, the first general conference was held. Its membership…is committed to eradicating sexism in its theology and in society at large… It also addresses the AIDS epidemic as a major social issue…because incidences of the disease are so prevalent among its own membership…
The UFMCC emphasizes that everything in our life, including our sexuality, must center on our relationship with God…” (Handbook of Denominations in the U.S.A., 10th Ed., Frank S. Mead, Abingdon Press, Nashville, TN. p. 208).
In May of 2015 the “Connectional Table” (a panel) of the United Methodist Church met in Nashville and voted 26 to 10 to present to the 2016 General Conference (UFMCC) a proposal to remove the prohibition in their by-laws opposed to sodomite behavior, and to allow the clergy to officiate so-called same-sex marriage ceremonies. The UFMCC has actually affirmed that in doing so this would not contradict Christian doctrine! They also claim that “everything in life” centered on their “relationship with God.” It seems they were ignorant of the writing of Paul:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Cor. 6:9-10). Jesus Christ taught: “Have ye not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female? (Eph. JW, Matt. 19:4).
My friend and brother Gary Summers, refers to,
…a conference held in February of 2019 in St. Louis. Apparently, there were enough votes from Africa to cause this unauthorized denominational body to affirm that “clergymen” could be removed if they didn’t agree with the church’s stance against homosexual marriage and noncelibate LGBTQ clergy. Now a 9-page document has been compiled which explains how the “traditional” and “progressive” churches will split… The losing side, however, seems to come out on top. The “progressive” group still gets to be called United Methodists, and the “traditional” group gets to start a new denomination… So, what will the new group call themselves… the Disunited Methodist Church? Other names they might consider include: The Untied Methodist Church, the United Methodist Castaways, or the United Methodist Traditionalists.” (Spiritual Perspectives, “Divided Methodist Church” Gary W. Summers, p. 2).
In the stupidity of our “transgender” oriented society, the fact remains that there are only two sexes on the face of the earth! God created only two genders (Gen. 1-2). The Methodist Churches are at odds over this matter worldwide. Members must side with the General Conference or with God!
Just recently, (the ides of May 2023), the First United Methodist Church of Maysville, Okla. took down all their signage as they were considered to hold to the “Scriptural” position which identifies the LBGTQ crowd as being in sin, and not the “unscriptural” position which welcomes such sin without repentance (Acts 17:30; Luke 13:3-5; 24:46-47; 2 Pet. 3:9). The new denomination that has now been formed in Maysville, Okla. is called “The Foundation.”
It would be wonderful indeed if all men could return to the original foundation! Paul writes: “For no other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 3:11).
