Much Ado Over “Easter”

Marvin L. Weir

Much of the denominational religious world is in panic that they will not be able to celebrate “Easter Sunday” the way they have done in the past. The coronovirus has interfered with their Easter egg hunts and special activities for the day.

This is what happens when man rejects the Word of God and falls in love with man-made traditions. If it were not “Easter Sunday,” many people would not be that concerned about missing the services. There is absolutely no God given authority for a special Easter service. This Lord’s Day is the same as any other Lord’s Day. No Sunday is more important or significant than any other Sunday! And, yes, this includes the “Christmas season” as well. Christ has not authorized celebrating His birth or His resurrection. We are truly thankful for both, but these two Lord’s Days that men seek to exalt are no more or no less important than any other Lord’s Day.

The Bible does authorize us to partake of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7). And, every week has a first day (Sunday). Those who desire to follow denominational error want to celebrate Christmas or Easter for which there is no authority, and then for that which there is authority to partake of each week (Lord’s Supper) they demote to a monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual event.

The Scriptures are clear regarding the Lord’s Supper. A Christian is required to partake of the Lord’s Supper every time he assembles together (1 Cor. 11:20) or comes together (1 Cor. 11:33). And, as already mentioned, this should be every first day of the week (Acts 20:7).
